The Federal Aviation Administration is proposing improvements to air traffic procedures in the Cleveland and Detroit metropolitan areas FAAthat will make the airspace more efficient and help reduce delays.

The improvements are part of the FAA’s efforts to modernize the National Airspace System through the use of satellite-based navigation as part of the Next Generation Air Transportation System, more commonly known as NextGen. The FAA expects NextGen to deliver $147.4 billion in benefits nationally through 2030.

The FAA has identified multiple Metroplex areas in the United States. Each Metroplex includes one or more commercial airports that serve at least one major city. A Metroplex allows the FAA to improve regional traffic movement by making the best use of airspace and procedures, using precise, satellite-based navigation. The use of NextGen procedures in these areas could improve on-time performance, which would benefit the region and the entire national airspace system.  For more information, please see our website:

The FAA invites the public to attend information workshops, to be held in open house format, where representatives from the FAA will be available to answer questions. Written comments will also be accepted at the workshop. The workshop locations are ADA compatible and every reasonable effort to accommodate special needs will be considered.
