NancyandDickCauseThe Fairview Park Community Council is pleased to introduce Nancy and Dick Cause as the 2016 Citizens of the Year. Only once before has this recognition been awarded to a husband and wife at the same time.

Nancy began volunteering when her oldest child started to nursery school and she hasn’t stopped. When the kids were school age, she was very active supporting their schools; as a room mother and PTA member at Messiah; serving as a Board Member of the Fairview Park Nursery School; working in the Parkview School library with her mother-in-law and as the PTA’s Market Day chair for many years. She was Corresponding Secretary and Bulletin co-chair for the Middle School/High School PTA and served as Treasurer of the PTA Council.

If that is not enough, Nancy has been a member of the Fairview Park Junior Women’s Club for 22 years, serving as President for four terms. It appears she has held all of the officer positions or committee chairs at least once – Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Board Member-at-Large, Parliamentarian, Wine Tasting fundraiser (5 times), Publicity, Fairview Assistance, Summerfest table, Community Service, Activities, Membership, Helping Hands, Publications, Bench Project and is now serving another term as Vice-President.

Nancy is active at her church, Messiah Lutheran, coordinating and serving food for funeral receptions. For many years she has helped coordinate and bake desserts for the Fairview Park Youth Association’s Night at the Races. She has been involved in collecting donations for We Do Care and the Fairview Park Hunger Center.

You will quickly notice a pattern with Dick’s volunteer activities. He is a long time Trustee and Treasurer of the Fairview Park Education Foundation. He is a member of and Treasurer for the Fairview Park Youth Association. He has been Treasurer and President of the Football Boosters. He audits the FP Junior Women’s Club financial records. He has been the Financial Secretary for Messiah Lutheran Church for 30 years, where has also served as usher. Dick obviously puts his CPA expertise to good use when he volunteers.

Dick currently serves on the Accounting Advisory Council for the College of Business Administration at Kent State University. In the past he served in a similar capacity at Cleveland State University.

Nancy and Dick have been married for 37 years and have lived in Fairview Park since 1983. They have three children. Jack lives in Fairview Park with his wife Angie and their 2 girls. Liz and her husband Brian Golla live in New Jersey with their daughter and son. Ray is engaged to Tara Bobak and they live in Olmsted Falls. Dick has been a CPA for a firm located in Independence for almost 39 years. Nancy’s long list of volunteer activities keep her busy when she is not spoiling her grandchildren.

Here are two people who are equally deserving of this honor on their own merit, but they support and complement each other’s volunteerism. They have been and remain committed to their organizations, this city and the needs of those around them. Together they add so much to the quality of life in and around Fairview Park.

Please join the Fairview Park Community Council in congratulating Nancy and Dick Cause at this year’s Citizens of the Year dinner and recognition on Wednesday, May 25th (please note the date change) at the Fairview Park Senior Center.
