Shepard Officer of the Year Award 3Congratulations to Fairview Park Police Lt. Paul Shepard for receiving the 2015 Anthony J. Johnson Sr. Police Officer of the Year Award.

This honor is presented annually in memory of Cleveland Police Officer Anthony J. Johnson, Sr. who was shot and killed responding to a bank robbery in progress on October 21, 1981. This award is presented to a dedicated officer who is involved in law enforcement and community organizations and consistently exhibits unselfish service as well as excellence in professional and community leadership.

Lt. Shepard received the award on May 16, 2015, from the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society.

The Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society (GCPOMS) was established in 1985 by a handful of area police officers after the funeral of a fellow officer killed in the line of duty. Grieving the loss of a friend and fellow officer, they made a promise: they would never abandon the families of fallen officers or let the community forget their service. The GCPOMS actively works to honor service to the community, provide financial assistance and ongoing emotional and practical support to the families of fallen officers, and advance education for law enforcement through scholarship awards.
