The Westshore Central Dispatch Center (Westcom) coordinates fire and EMS services in response to 9-1-1 and emergency number calls in Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Ridgeville, Rocky River and Westlake and for mutual aid to other neighboring communities. The purpose of the dispatch center is to share communication costs between the five cities and to allow us to share personnel and equipment resources more effectively during emergencies.
The Westshore Council of Governments formally agreed on February 2, 2005, to consolidate the dispatching services. WestCom opened on March 29, 2006. Westcom is funded through annual membership fees paid by each of the five cities. Fee levels are established using a formula that takes size, population, and tax base into consideration. Operating costs are shared by the communities whose fire departments are dispatched by the center.
WestCom is located at St. John Medical Center in the City of Westlake. The dispatch center is staffed 24/7 by trained emergency dispatchers.
The mission of the Westshore Central Dispatch Center is to provide professional and efficient emergency communications to the citizens, first responders, and visitors of the Westshore Region. This will be accomplished through utilizing technology, ongoing training, dedicated employees, and continued growth to fulfill the needs of our community and all who pass through it.
