Giant-EagleThe Giant Eagle Foundation awarded the City of Fairview Park and Fairview Park Senior Council a $2,000 grant to support the Fairview Park Senior Transportation Program. Created in the 1980’s, this program provides our senior and disabled residents with adequate, reliable, and affordable transportation to and from medical appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, and social events at the Fairview Park Senior Center. In 2014, 5,310 rides were given. The grant will be applied to program operating expenses, including fuel costs and personnel wages.

The importance of suitable transportation options for senior citizens and those with disabilities cannot be overstated. Senior citizens and disabled individuals lacking adequate transportation options most often isolate themselves by remaining at home for extended periods of time, which can cause social, physical, and economic harm.

The Fairview Park Senior Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1984 to advocate for and advance the needs of Fairview Park citizens 55 years of age and older.
