The second of two Recycle Roundup events hosted by the City of Fairview Park will take place Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in the parking lot of City Hall.  This event is for Fairview Park residents, please bring identification.

The following services will be available during the Recycle Roundup:

  • Paper shredding: A truck will be on-site to ensure your confidential information is completely destroyed in minutes. Residents are asked to limit amount of material to be shredded to two copy paper sized boxes.
  • Computer equipment recycling: Computer equipment that is accepted includes CPU’s, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, terminals, modems, cables, software, and ink printer cartridges. Cell phones and their accessories are also accepted. Computer equipment will only be collected by the city during recycling events. The remainder of the year, you are encouraged to take your recyclables to RET3 Job Corp or Best Buy.

PLEASE NOTE: Latex paint is not considered a hazardous material and will not be accepted at this event. Latex paint is 99% water and 1% rubber, and is safe to dispose with your household trash when it is dried out. Here are step-by-step instructions for disposing of latex paint.

To solidify latex paint:
* Air dry
. Remove the lid and allow the liquid to evaporate. This works well for small quantities of paint (an inch or two in the bottom of the can), and can take several days.
* Use a drying agent. Mix an equal amount of an absorbent material into the can and allow the paint to dry. Use cat litter, sawdust, plaster of Paris, Oil-dry, or “waste paint hardeners” found at home improvement centers. The paint could dry quickly, depending on how much drying agent you include in the can.
* Pour thin layers (about 1″ of paint) into a cardboard box lined with plastic. Allow the paint to dry one layer at a time until all paint has hardened.

Once the paint is thoroughly dry, place it in a regular trash bag and put it out with your weekly rubbish collection.
