A School Travel Plan (STP) is a planning document that outlines a community’s strategy for enabling and encouraging students to engage in active transportation (i.e., walking or bicycling) as a mode of travel to and from school.

An STP is created through a team-based approach that involves community stakeholders and members of the public identifying barriers to active transportation and creating countermeasures to address them. Once an STP has been approved, a community may seek funding for their proposed countermeasures as a means of, among other objectives, facilitating a safe travel environment and providing educational opportunities for children.

The Fairview Park School Travel Plan, developed by the Fairview Park Safe Routes to School Committee, was formally approved by the Ohio Department of Transportation on January 28, 2014.
