Steven L. Owens

Steven L. Owens will join the City of Fairview Park staff as Director of Recreation on November 9, 2015. He was nominated for the position by Mayor Eileen Patton and formally approved by City Council on November 2.

Steve has over 15 years experience directing recreation programs for the residents of Cuyahoga County. His most recent position was Regional Manager for the City of Cleveland Parks and Recreation Department. In this position, Steve oversaw five recreation centers and managed a staff of over 100 direct report employees. He formerly worked as a part-time employee of the City of Fairview Park at the Gemini Center while completing his graduate work.

Mr. Owens holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Kent State University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health from Youngstown State University, and an Associate’s Degree in Emergency Medical Technology from Cuyahoga Community College. Steve is a State of Ohio recognized Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, and he became a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional in 2015.

Steve is a Certified Pool Operator with an extensive knowledge of aquatics operations and systems. Steve holds 13 health and safety certifications with the American Red Cross and is one of less than 20 American Red Cross Instructor-Trainers in Cuyahoga County.

Steve has been married to his wife, Shannon, for six years. They currently reside on the west side of Cleveland. Steve enjoys Cleveland sports, spending time with family, and doing projects around his home.
